LEE COUNTY –
A World War II hero sails into Southwest Florida in preparation for her descent to her final resting place. But the USS Mohawk isn’t alone in her journey.
“Hey everybody! Welcome to the Mohawk,” greets Reefmakers marketing director Joe Weatherby.
For Bonita Springs resident Ed March it’s welcome back.
“I remember everything, how could I forget?” says Ed.
He served three tours on the Mohawk, all with the US Coast Guard.
“I was on five different ships and this was the best, the guys were like brothers,” says Ed.
Brothers who worked together to save lives.
“She’s the last ship to broadcast the weather to green light the D-Day invasion during World War II,” says Weatherby.
She took out 14 enemy submarines during the war and survived the unthinkable. Click here for more
